After buying Bully by a day or two, another game was on sale and what was it? Well non other than last Sonic game to be released on a Sega console and it’s called… Sonic Adventure 2! The game was released at first on the Dreamcast and later ported over to the Gamecube as Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. An HD version was released later on PSN, XBLA, and last year for Microsoft Windows.
Of course since it’s Steam then the version I got is for Microsoft Windows! This isn’t a review so I didn’t finish the game yet, but anyway the game has different modes to play. The 1 Player mode has you playing throughout the story either in Hero or Dark mode.
In the hero mode you play with Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles throughout the levels with each having his own way for gameplay. Sonic is used just like any other Sonic game you would expect, speed…Speed, and a whole lot of speed fun. When playing with Tails you’re in one of his strong airplanes that turn into a mech across the level, and finally we have Knuckles searching for parts of the broken master chaos emerald.
Now the dark mode has you playing with Shadow, Dr. Eggman, and Rouge. You can take the gameplay style as…
Sonic vs Shadow — Tails vs Dr. Eggman — Knuckles vs Rouge
That is because the way of gameplay in dark for each character and his opposite are the same, however the way of levels and movement differ making it fun and always have a different yet close meaning. Of course the story has also a different state because you see it in the eyes of different characters almost every stage.
The only downside about the game is that the mechanics of the game have not been improved by much, when controlling a character like Sonic or Shadow, some of the mechanics don’t work like they should be for such a time of great mechanics, sometimes the jumps don’t work as well as they should and that really drops the score of a game released at this point of time, of course that is because it should be an “improved” title and not the same, although the HD graphics and the soundtrack is noticeably better of course.
Overall I’m enjoying the game and having lots of fun playing it, such a downside won’t stop me from playing such a game. Thanks for reading everyone, until next time…
