GeekLife: Sitting Down With My Brand New BlackBerry Z10

BlackBerry Z10

About a month ago, my cousin promised to get me a new smartphone (The Z10 of course), the brand new smartphone arrived on Friday and I couldn’t be happier, well I could if someone buys me a Wii  U! Anyone?

First of all, the best thing to start with about this smartphone is its new OS, the Blackberry 10 OS. This new operating system is exactly what people would expect for having a new OS, something new, something different. iOS updates from 4 to 5, and 5 to 6 improve almost nothing, and Android moving from ice cream sandwich to Jelly Bean and maybe someday apple pie show no improvements to a normal user.

So you ask what is the change? Let me start with this, instead of going android like and giving you a notification tab to pull down, the gave you a complete hub on the left side of the home screen. The hub contains all notifications from all the applications on the phone in a sleek and sexy way. Need to go to the hub quickly but you’re in the 7th page on the home screen? The 10th? 15th? No fear a fast slide through is here! At the bottom of the screen pull up and then right and it will take you directly to this hub.

Now when in an application, you can move it away by sliding you finger from the bottom and upwards, that keeps it on hold so you can switch for more and more that can also be on hold along with it. Of course you can press “X” to close the app and so on!

Did I mention the buttons? Well this phone has 4 buttons, 3 used for music (Play/Pause, Higher Volume,  Lower Volume), and a power button, but how can we unlock this device? Well a really important role it does is unlocking the phone by sweeping your finger across, no button pressing needed, 3 nights of checking the time without having to press a button? I couldn’t be any happier.

BlackBberry World is now actually a world, many games that CAN be played especially Robotek, and AngryBirds. The worst application I saw is a major application used in many countries which is the What’s app. Text on any internet connection for 0.99 (The price of the application on iOS). Though this is not BlackBerry’s fault Ii thought it would be good to know, of course any update should fix it… I hope.

The OS can also run android games and applications which increases the amount of software to choose from, however any normal person won’t know how to use it because it isn’t a standard .apk file, it’s a .Bar file, technically it’s a  .Bar switched from being .apk. It is worth searching for them anyway because now I finally have instagram again!

If anyone doesn’t know how to use and install the .Bar I’ll be happy to help, it’s a pretty easy (but kind of long) thing to do.

Overall the OS is really awesome and thank you for actually making something we can call a massive update BlackBerry.

iphone 5, Z10, S3

Now to move on to the hardware side of things, the Z10 (Middle) IS 137.5 g, and about 130 x 65.6 x 9 mm in dimensions, it can take up to 1080p@30fps of video,  and contains a CPU of Dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait. For full specs check out the link —>HERE<—

Right now the market has 4 OS ‘m really happy to have, do you know them? Well of course you do! iOS, Android, Blackberry 10 OS, and finally Windows, if you don’t see it yet, Windows is a really cool OS that you just HAVE to see. Thanks for reading everyone, until next time…
